Seiko Mod cases: the chassis of your watch
SKX, Turtle, Submariner, Explorer. The case defines your Seiko Mod's silhouette. Sizes, shapes, compatibility.
Seiko Mod case styles
The case is the watch's skeleton. It determines size, shape, water resistance and overall style. In the Seiko modding world, several case families dominate the market.
The SKX case is the icon. Inspired by the legendary Seiko SKX007, it measures approximately 42mm in diameter with balanced proportions. Rotating bezel, crown at 4 o'clock, instantly recognizable silhouette. It's the most popular format for a first mod.
The Turtle (SRP) case is more imposing (44mm), with a distinctive cushion profile and wide bezel. It appeals to fans of substantial dive watches. Thickness exceeds the SKX, giving a more massive wrist presence.
Submariner and Explorer style cases borrow codes from iconic Swiss watches with proportions adapted to the NH35/NH36 movement. 40-42mm, rotating or fixed bezel, classic proportions.
All these cases are 316L stainless steel. Some manufacturers offer 904L (the same as Rolex) for premium lines. The finish (brushed, polished, combined, bead-blasted) radically changes the appearance of the same case.
Water resistance depends on gasket quality and assembly. A well-made case with fresh gaskets reaches 100 to 200 meters of water resistance. Sufficient for swimming and recreational diving.
