Seiko Mod straps: the detail that changes everything
NATO, jubilee, oyster, leather, rubber. The strap transforms your Seiko Mod's character in seconds.
Strap types for Seiko Mods
The strap is the easiest component to change and the one that most radically transforms a watch's appearance. The same case with an identical dial can go from sporty to dressy simply by switching the strap.
NATO is the emblematic modding strap. In woven nylon, it passes under the case (single piece) and fastens with a buckle. Comfortable, lightweight, available in hundreds of colors and patterns. Quality NATOs use seatbelt nylon (dense weave), not thin nylon that frays. Common width: 20 or 22mm depending on case lug width.
Jubilee is the five-link steel bracelet, made famous by Rolex Datejust. Elegant, comfortable, it dresses up a watch instantly. In 316L stainless steel, with deployant clasp. The best Seiko Mod jubilees have solid links (not hollow) and fitted end pieces matching the case.
Oyster is a three-link steel bracelet, more understated than the jubilee. Sport-chic, it suits diver cases. It's the most versatile steel bracelet.
Leather brings a dressy or vintage side depending on type. Smooth calf leather for elegance, distressed leather for character, suede for texture. Leather thickness affects comfort: 2 to 3mm for a good flexibility/structure compromise.
FKM rubber (fluoroelastomer) is the sport choice. Water-resistant, supple, comfortable in summer. Quality FKMs have a soft touch (not sticky) and a flat profile hugging the wrist.
