Seiko Mod parts: where to find the best components
Movements, cases, dials, hands, crystals. The guide to tested and approved Seiko Mod part suppliers.
Seiko Mod parts suppliers
The Seiko Mod parts market has structured itself around several players. There are component manufacturers (producing cases, dials, hands), resellers (stocking and shipping), and integrated brands (assembling and selling complete watches from these parts).
The main parts manufacturers are based in Asia (China, Korea, Japan). Quality varies enormously from one supplier to another. A sunburst dial from a premium manufacturer has nothing in common with an entry-level dial: color depth, finish consistency, and index alignment are incomparable.
For movements, the source is straightforward: Seiko Instruments (SII) produces the NH35, NH36, NH38, NH34, and NH70 calibers. These movements are distributed by TMI (Time Module Inc.) and available from specialized resellers. An authentic NH35 costs between €25 and €40 depending on the reseller. Beware of prices that are too low: counterfeits exist.
Crystals come in two categories: mineral and sapphire. Sapphire crystal resists scratches and lasts years. Mineral is cheaper but scratches more easily. For a quality mod, sapphire is the recommended choice.
